Your grade and your standing are not affected by this workshop. The points the platform awards are for in-session learning only — they do not contribute to your university grade. If you disagree with a point or a penalty, tell your facilitator; scoring is reviewable.

How your data is used (please read before joining)

The CaNaMED research team (Université de Caen Normandie × Nagoya University, joint controllers under GDPR Art. 26 / joint users under APPI Art. 27(5)) collects your first name or nickname, university, year of study and self-assessed English level. Your name is visible to everyone in your room and appears next to the points you contribute.

The free-text answers you write may disclose health-related, religious or philosophical opinions about clinical scenarios — special-category data under GDPR Art. 9 and 要配慮個人情報 under APPI Art. 2(3). The optional second consent box below covers this.

Data is stored on Google Firebase Realtime Database in europe-west1 (Belgium, EU). For Japanese participants this is a cross-border transfer protected by the EU–Japan mutual adequacy decision (PPC, 2019). Live session data is purged within 30 days of the session closing, or within 90 days of creation if the session is never closed; if you ticked the research-consent box your contributions are kept linked to you (identifiable) for up to 5 years after publication. A copy also stays in our nightly backups for up to 90 days after they are taken, so the last copy of a session disappears about 120 days after it closes; backups are used only to restore the service after an incident, never to look data up.

Sessions are held by video conference on Microsoft Teams, under your university's subscription — Microsoft is a processor for this alongside Google. The tool produces a written transcript automatically, and that transcript carries your name against each thing you say; the audio/video recording of the session is kept as well, not only the transcript. The transcript and the recording are kept only if you tick the third consent box — for 5 years after publication, with the same restricted access as the rest of the research dataset, and you can ask for them to be deleted at any time. No photograph is taken, and you are not required to turn your camera on.

Signing in with Google is optional. If you do, a small profile and a list of session codes you have joined are tied to your Google account; you can edit or delete this at any time from the "My account" panel. Anonymous joining works exactly the same way.

You can withdraw your consent at any time. Whether you tick the second consent box has no effect on your grade, your standing at your university, or your participation in the workshop. To exercise any right (access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal, complaint), contact your facilitator or write to canamed-ethics@unicaen.fr (see the full privacy policy for the stable mailbox).

The full privacy policy lists the controllers' identities, the legal bases, the joint-use items, the international-transfer safeguards, retention periods, your rights with response times, and the ethics-committee approvals. Please read it once before joining.

Your certificate of attendance is independently verifiable. A verification ID and QR code printed on it link — in a separate registry — to a one-way hash of your name and session, so that anyone you give BOTH the ID AND the name to can confirm, on a public CaNaMED page, that they match a genuine CaNaMED certificate. Your name is never published — the page only answers “valid” or “no match”. The registry stores only the hash, for up to 5 years, and you can ask for your entry to be removed at any time (see section 18 of the privacy policy).

Welcome to Session 3

Theme: Learning From Each Other — a student-led exchange session. Everything for today runs from this platform. You move through the session together; a facilitator advances your room from one block to the next.

Your grade and your standing are not affected by this workshop. The points the platform awards are for in-session learning only — they do not contribute to your university grade. If you disagree with a point or a penalty, tell your facilitator; scoring is reviewable.

Today's structure (approx. 2 hours)

  1. Module A — Chronic Pain & the Clinical Case, worked through here on the platform.
  2. Module B — Breaking Bad News, a cross-cultural roleplay.
  3. Wrap-up — debrief and the end-of-session questionnaire.

Your facilitator will start your room when the session begins.
